Frequently asked questions

  • An agreed value policy fixes the insured value at the start of the policy. If the vessel is a total loss, that agreed amount is paid. A market value policy pays what the vessel was worth at the time of the loss, which is typically less due to depreciation. Agreed value removes the dispute about valuation at the worst possible moment, and it is what we always recommend.

  • Not automatically. Most standard pleasure craft policies exclude racing. If you race, you need a racing endorsement added to your policy. Contact us to check whether your current cover includes racing or to arrange the appropriate extension.

  • It depends on your policy terms. Many policies require you to notify your insurer if another person will be using the vessel, and some restrict cover to the named insured or specified persons. If you allow others to use the boat regularly, it is worth reviewing your policy to ensure they are covered.
